About NUUM
Before you trust someone to coach your athlete, I think it's important to know who they are. Here's a little about my journey, what has shaped me, and the coach I've become along the way.
Meet Coach Minaya
Minaya Olivo
Sports have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. What started as simply loving to compete eventually took me to Division I football—first at Montana State, then at UCLA. Looking back, those years shaped far more than the athlete I became. They shaped the coach I am today.
One of the biggest lessons I learned wasn't about football at all. It was about understanding. For a long time, I thought getting better just meant working harder. I followed workouts because my coaches told me to, not because I understood why we were doing them. It wasn't until later in my playing career that coaches started encouraging questions. Once I understood the purpose behind my training, everything changed.
That experience still shapes the way I coach today.
Today, I work with athletes in speed development, strength and conditioning, football, and baseball. I'm also a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, but credentials have never been the part of coaching that motivates me most. What matters to me is helping athletes understand what they're doing and why. I want them to become more confident, more independent, and more capable—not just during our sessions, but long after they leave them.
Outside of coaching, I've always been fascinated by how people learn and how the human body works. That curiosity led me to earn my psychology degree at UCLA, and it's the same reason I'm now pursuing medical school with the long-term goal of becoming an orthopedic surgeon. Coaching, psychology, and medicine might seem like different paths, but to me they've always been connected by the same question: How can we better understand people so we can help them grow?
When I'm coaching, I want athletes to leave with more than a faster sprint time or a higher vertical jump. I want them to understand their own bodies, trust the work they're putting in, and develop confidence that lasts well beyond sports.
Starting NUUM was the natural result of everything I've experienced—as an athlete, a student, and now a coach. I wanted to create the kind of environment I believe every young athlete deserves: one where they're challenged, understood, and taught with purpose.

What We Operate By
Core Values
-
01
Meet athletes where they are
No two athletes develop at the same pace — training starts with where they actually are.
-
02
Teach the why
Every drill gets explained before it's asked of an athlete — never the reverse.
-
03
Progress over perfection
The twelve-week arc is a shared rhythm, not a shared finish line.
-
04
Build confidence through competence
Confidence comes from understanding a movement, not just being told encouraging things.
-
05
Measure progress objectively
Official laser timing and testing — not a stopwatch and a guess.
-
06
Coach the person before the athlete
Understanding who an athlete is comes before what they can do.
-
07
Pursue continuous growth
Growth never ends — for athletes, and for how we coach.
What We're Building Toward
What Success Looks Like
Athletes who believe in themselves. Who move efficiently, without unnecessary pain. Who understand why they train, embrace mistakes as part of learning, and chase continuous improvement instead of perfection.
We built NUUM around a simple test: does an athlete leave a session having learned something, having challenged themselves, knowing why they trained the way they did — and excited to come back next week.
